Busy Book for Christmas….

Hi there, so I wanted to share with you the busy Busy Book I just finished for my best friend Cynthia’s daughter. She called me a while ago and asked me to make one for her daughter for Christmas. Well, I know I’m early, but you know me, once I start a project I have to finish it. 🙂 SO, here are some pics of it. My daughter Bella was by my side, “testing the product” as I was finishing each page lol. She of corse asked me to make her another busy book with some of the features in this one, especially the potatoe head page.

So for those of you who have seen my previous blog posts, about a year ago I made one for Bella. Here’s a link to the post. “Cloth Busy Book”. Well, I’m sure you can see I made this one a little different. Honestly, this one is made way better!! Instead of hot glueing everything together, except the pages, I’ve sewn all the pieces/pages. It’s so much more sturdy and will hold up longer. At first I wasn’t really looking forward to changing thread colors, but then I remembered I had clear thread, so I just used that for the entire book! It actually was a lot easier to sew everything then to hot glue it. Saved me time and the pain of burning my fingers on tiny pieces of felt. 😉

All in all, I had a blast making it, and I’m pretty sure I will be making more. Well, I know I have to make one for Bella at least. I’m thinking I’m going add a noah’s ark page, and Jonah and the whale, maybe a brush your teeth page. I don’t know, I’ll figure it out, however, I do know that I will definitely be making one in the same manner as I made this one. NOT the kind I made for Bella originally, sheesh that one was a pain in the neck!

Well, that’s it for today, thanks for reading, hope you have a wonderful Saturday!!

Car troubles and DIY Queen Elsa’s wig with snowflake pins!

Hello again, so obviously by the title you can see I’m having car issues. Thankfully we are suppose to be getting a car tomorrow, since our car now has transmissions issues. ugh ugh UGH!! Right when things are going so well, another curve ball is thrown at us. Oh well, at lease we are getting a new one soon, Praise God. I’t been almost 2 weeks we’ve been out of a car, wow is does that seem to be a long time, especially when you have an almost 4 year old who gets bored after being stuck in the house so long. 😦

Aside from that, I went to party city and bought a platinum blonde wig for Queen Elsa’s hair. I have to say, if I could have afforded a better one I would have gotten it, this one was extremely difficult to work with and it’s made very poorly. Oh well, another challenge I had to concur. Elsa’s hair is just one big, introverted, french braided. With a lot of fullness on top, with some wispy pieces of hair falling out. So that’s what I did, grant it, it’s not half as good as what her hair really should look like. But, I figured she’s only going to be wearing it for an hour or two, so I don’t think the kids will mind that much.

To make the snowflake pins, I just went to joann fabrics and got Momenta Metal Snowflake Stickers, Jolee’s Boutique Dimensional Snowflake Stickers, in which I cannot find them on their website, but they are sold in the scrapbooking section there. After that, I just used bobby pins that I already had.

Screen Shot 2014-03-05 at 7.25.17 AMSo all I did was hot glue the boutique stickers onto the middle of the metal stickers. Then hot glued the piece to the tip of a bobby pin, hence creating Elsa’s snowflakes for her hair ;).

This is what is should come out looking like, it’s so quick and easy to make, and hey maybe I’ll even put them in my hair or Bella’s hair someday haha.

Now for the wig, I just teased the top the best I could, pulled a few pieces out, for the wispy hairs, and then french braided it. Simple enough, just add your snowflake pins to the it and your set.

Yes so I did end up trying it on to see how it would fit, after I stuffed my hair inside of the wig, which took forever since my hair is  about 2 1/2 foot long, the wig didn’t look that bad. NOT ON ME, blonde is definitely NOT my color, but the overall wig was ok. I wish the front would have been better, but unfortunately it was just how the wig was made, so I didn’t really have a choice in some spots during the styling.

HAHA well have a good day, and thanks for reading, hope this was helpful for you!!

Making a Quilt for my bed!

Hello, hope your Wednesday is going good! So I’ve been on an interesting adventure, I’ve finally decided to make a quilt for my queen sized bed! I know I know, I’ve told you I really don’t enjoy quilting, but since I’ve done the “quilt-as-you-go” method on my placemats, which I will post pictures of the finished table set, I’ve had a whole new light on quilting. Granted, the quilt I wanted to make for my bed isn’t a “quilt-as-you-go” method, but I’m actually having fun! HA who knew that I would learn to love to quilt. I will probably never end up selling them, just making them for myself or for gifts. There are too many quilters out there to compete with, plus I need to brush up on my skills a bit!!! u like

Anyway, on the quilt I still need to add another border for it to fit my bed properly, then add the backing and batting. But I could wait to take a picture when  it was done lol. I’m so impatient at times, and anxious to share it with you!

Well, hope you like it so far, let me know what you think! Thanks for reading, and have an awesome “hump” day.

Christina

P.S. I just pinned my quilt to the top of my front doorway lol, I didn’t really know how else to take a good picture of it. So as always, please forgive my photography!

New Curtain for my kitchen window!

Hi there, so I have finally made a curtain for my kitchen window. The other curtain that was there was nice, but didn’t match. To be honest, it came with our apartment, and I never really got around to making one that “matched” my kitchen. As some of you may know, my kitchen consists of Red, Tan, and Black colors. Emphasis on the the RED, I have to say, I’m slightly obsessed with putting as much red into my kitchen as possible. I don’t know why, I guess I just think it looks classy yet modern at the same time. I don’t know, I just really like it!!

Anyway, the type of curtain I made is like a draped roman curtain, just not as structured, more relaxed. So it has some elegance to it, haha, so much of my apartment looks like a bachelor pad still. Lol, slowly but surely I am putting a feminine touch to it HA! my poor husband, thankfully he doesn’t care much, and is super supportive in my “decorating” ideas.

This was so fun and easy to make!

Well, that’s it for today, hope your having a wonderful day, and as always, thanks for reading! Will talk to you all again soon!!

Xo Christina

P.S. Please excuse the rack of food etc. on the left, I’m working on getting a small pantry/cabinet. Oh and the huge tube sticking out of the window?! Well, that attaches to our portable air-conditioner, it’s to blow the hot air out the window instead of all over my kitchen!  So, sorry it looks so cluttered!! 😦

New Summer Dresses for Bella

Over the past few days I’ve been sewing like crazy, I decided to make Bella some spring/summer dresses! They came out so good, in all honesty, I’ve had a few people ask me where I bought them. In which I replied with, of corse, I made them! Haha Bella is a great little model too! Such a proud momma I am, although, my little girl dresses better than me! 😉 What makes it even better, is that Bella gets super excited when I make her a new dress. She puts it on and twirls around in a big circle saying, “look mommy, look so pretty!” Hee hee so adorable!

This is a tunic dress pattern I used from the book, “One Yard Wonders” there’s a link there to it on Amazon!

I ended up having to shorten the elastic in the band in the back. Bella is so thin, that the length of the elastic the pattern calls for, well I had to cut it almost in half. Thankfully, it didn’t end up looking like a bunched up mess. IMG_0360

This one is my favorite, aside from her incredibly, adorable, cheesy grin, I actually made this one without a pattern. It took some time getting the measurements right and all that, but in the end it was well worth it! It’s just your classic little girl dress, or that’s what I call it. Also, not sure if you recognize the fabric, but I used this in a wallet and purse I made. Here is a blog link to see the wallet, I guess I never took a photo of the purse, so I posted a photo of it at the end of this blog…“My First Vinyl Women’s Wallet”.

I know it’s grainy, but I put a loop and button closure on the top of it. This is the first time I’ve ever incorporated this in a dress. Makes it easy to pull on and off with out killing  your self haha ;).

Here is the purse I made, it’s actually a clutch sized messenger bag. I thought I blogged about it in the past but I must not have, hmm if you find it let me know!

Well that’s it for today, thanks for reading.

Child sized duffle bag…

Good Afternoon, today is such a beautiful day! The sun is shinning, the weather is perfect, and I’m in a good mood 😉 haha. So today I made another duffle bag, except this one is a bit smaller. Since my daughter is potty trained now, WOHOO, I don’t need to lug around my diaper bag all the time. Ok, so that’s not entirely true, I still carry it in the car with extra clothes, panties, etc. just in case ;). So yea, getting back on track, I made this one for her, it’s dimensions are: 18′ long x 8 1/2 ” wide/tall, were as the other bag is:  22″ long x 11″ wide/tall. It’s not that much of a difference, but it’s more “kid” sized lol.

Oh, just a little FYI, I did actually make this bag up on my own. Of corse, there are a million and one bags out there, in which I have gotten a lot of inspiration from. But, I did make come up with the pattern, dimensions, etc. for these. I was thinking about doing a tutorial on them, it’s pretty simple, what do you think? Would that be of interest for any of you or no?

Anyway, enough of my blabbing, thanks for reading, and hope you have a marvelous day!

Cushion covers with a zipper!!

Hello again, so this past week has been quite an adventure. It has so dreary, cold, rainy, and no sun!  So it’s been a bit of a challenge to find things to do to keep my 2 year old pre occupied. Thank heavens for indoor playgrounds, at fast food restaurants, if it weren’t for those, I think my little one would be bored out of her mind. She was so cute, yesterday, She asked if she could go outside and play on her swing, we had to say no because it’s raining and the swing is wet. She is so smart, she actually went and got a towel and said, “ok, dry it off!” Poor baby, hopefully it will stop raining soon so we aren’t confined to stay indoors.

Anyway, my MIL asked me to make her some durable cushion covers. Originally she was going to make the covers herself with a fold over back, so she would be able to easily take the pillows out. But, that requires a lot more fabric, plus, I mentioned to her adding a zipper would be more convenient and cost effective. So I sort of…adopted the project lol.  Anyway, I just finished making them, and I only took a picture of one, but there are actually six cushion covers.

Over all this project was pretty quick and easy to make. I was thinking about doing a tutorial on how to add a zipper to your pillow/cushion cover, what do you think? Let me know if you think that would be beneficial or not. 🙂

As always thanks for reading,

Christina
